After spending a holiday in Romania, it takes a tourist only one hour by plane to reach the capitals of the former Hapsburg Empire (Prague, Vienna, Budapest), the bimillenary metropolises of the Balkan region (Athens, Istanbul) or of the Slav one (Kiev, Cracow, Zagreb). The Romanians' hospitality and open nature turn even a short holiday into an unforgettable experience of human warmth and friendship.

BLACK SEA COAST
This is the main tourist area, considering the large numtber of romanian and foreign tourists. The romanian "riviera", which is 50 km long, is made up of a continuous belt of 16 seaside resorts (some of the being also spas), out of which six are in high demand: Mamaia, Eforie Nord, Costinesti (the resort of the youth), Neptun (the favourite holiday place of former dictator Ceausescu), Olimp, Venus, 2 Mai, all of them built after 1960. Tourists can visit also the vestiges of the three colonies which were founded there by ancient Greeks in the seventh - sixth centuries BC: Histria to the north, Tomis in the centre (the present-day Constanta, which is the main Romanian sea port, boasting an imposing archaeological museum) and Callatis (the present-day Mangalia), and also the monument from Adamclisi (100 km west). Besides the ordinary cure factors, there are here natural lakes with therapeutical mud. Lake Techirghiol is most appreciated and several sanatoriums were built around it.
Mamaia
Summer resort of international fame, situated in SE extremity of Romania (Constanta county),on a litoral strip between the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol, elevation 6-8 m, 5 km N of the municipality of Constanta Maritime littoral climate with annual average temperatures exceeding 11°C (the July average exceeds 22°C and the January average is of about 0°C) and low precipitation (about 400 mm annually).
In summer the nebulsity is reduced and the sun shines for 10-12 hours a day.The sea breeze refreshens the hot air. Natural cure factors are the excitantstressful marine climate, the saline aerosol, the solar radiation and the water of the Black Sea which is chlorided, sulphated, sodic, magnezian, hypotonic.
Along the resort, over an area some 8 km long and 100-250 m wide on the Black Sea shore there are beaches of extremely fine sand fit for aeroheliotherapy and wave therapy.Characteristic of the resort is the fact that most hotels (over 50), minihotels, villas and campgrouns are very close to the beach. Very attractive is the "Holiday Village", which has 31 restaurants decorated in the rustic style of the country's different regions and serving specific dishes. The resort boats a lot of restaurants, gardens, bars and nightclubs, confectioneries, food stores, cinemas, discoteques, amusament parks, sportsgrounds, minigolf courses, bowling parlours, open-air theatre, etc. Every year the Summer Theatre of Mamaia is the venue of the Romanian Light Music Festival. Based in Mamaia (1966) in the local radio station "Radio Holidays" which, from May to October, broadcasts entertainment, programemes in five languages (Romanian, English, French, German and Russian) to all resorts on the Romanian coast. On lake Siutghiol various water sports may be practiced (ski, yachting, wind-surfing etc.) The many amusement and recreation opportunities include trips to the Danube Delta the other resorts on Romanian coast of the Black Sea, to the ruins of the Histria citadel (7th cent. B.C.), trips to Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Egypt; dolphinarium, planetarium etc.

Eforie Nord
All-season resort of national importance belonging to the town of Eforie (population 9,461, July 1, 1991), situated in SE extremity of Romania (Constanta Techirghiol, elevation 6-20 m, 14 km S of the municipality of Constanta. Seacoast climate with hot summers (July average temperature above 22°c) and mild winters with little snow (January average 0°C). Low precipitation (about 400 mm annually). Low nebulosity in summertime when the sun shines for 10-12 hours daily. Natural cure factors are the excitant-stressful marine climate, the water of the Black Sea which is chlorided, sulphated, sodic, magnesian, hypotonic (average mineralization 15.5g), the salt water of Lake Techirghiol (average mineralization 70-80 g), the sapropelic mud from the bottom of the lake, the solar datiation and the saline aerosols. The fine-sand beaches are maintained for sunbathing and wave therapy; on the shore of Lake Techirghiol there are two open-air treatment compounds endowed with facilities for applications of cold mud from the lake and enclosures for bathing in the lake. The resort suits both healthy holiday makers and ailing people who can take cures for degenerative (cervical, dorsal and lumbar spondylosis), inflammatory (rheumatoid spondylitis and polyarthritis) and abarticular rheumatic diseases (tendonitis, tendomyositis, scapulohumeral periarthritis), peripheral neurological disorders (post-traumatic paralysis and paresis of the limbs, sequelae after poliomyelitis), dermatological, respiratory, gynecological disorders (ovarian insufficiency, chronic cervicitis, secondary sterility, etc.), Deficient growth in children, rachitis, decalcification, secondary anemia, etc. The resort has two treatment compounds (one connected to the chain of hotels Meduza, Delfinul and Steaua de Mare, and another to the 120-bed Grand Clinic of the Institute of Balneophysiotherapy and Medical Recovery - a study base for the specialized department of the Bucharest Institute of Medicine of Pharmacy), as well as numerous facilities for warm bathis in tubs and pools with concentrated salt water form Lake Techirghiol, for warm baths and applications of mud, for gynecological treatments, aerosols and kinetotherapy, saunas, gyms, etc.
